Non-Surgical ACL Management
Some patients — particularly older adults or those with low activity demands — manage ACL tears without surgery through structured strengthening and neuromuscular training. Timeline: 3–6 months with consistent PT.
Post-Surgical ACL Protocol
After ACL reconstruction, rehab typically spans 6–9 months:
- Weeks 0–6: Swelling control, range of motion, quad activation
- Weeks 6–12: Strength building, gait normalization
- Months 3–6: Agility, plyometrics, sport-specific drills
- Months 6–9+: Return-to-sport testing — return-to-sport testing
